Used in shipping, manufacturing and industrial applications throughout the world, overhead cranes are a vital part of the global economy. Designed to carry exceptionally heavy loads, these cranes are indispensable for moving cargo to and from ships, trucks and other vehicles. They are also commonly used in industrial manufacturing and repair facilities for moving heavy items, parts and products.
With their humongous lifting capabilities however come inherent risks of accidents occuring due to a lack of situational awareness on the part of personnel and crane operators. Traditionally, this was handled by audible alarms and safety personnel on the ground ensuring that workers are clear of the load being handled. This system isn't always foolproof however and accidents can and still occur.
Audible alarms are limited
Audible alarms have been used successfully for many decades. However, they are frequently "drowned out" and ignored as workers get used to the beeping sound. There is also more widespread use of ear plugs to protect the worker. FOREWARNER lights do not take the place of audible alarms, but do provide visual warning that is relative to the proximity of the moving equipment hazard.
Warning lights improve safety on overhead cranes:
• Reduce incidences of human error - ensures pedestrians are aware of moving load.
• Pedestrian sees projected line or spot on floor - knows his proximity to the moving load.
